Known by the locals because of its high caliber dishes, but not so well by the travellers, The Harbour Club is a restaurant that provides truly sensational food, views and ceremony and shouldn’t be missed on your visit to Malta.
Having been available for a few decades, this jewel provides a space to wind down after a busy day seeing the streets of Valletta, or a place of romance where you can dine under the stars. You can enjoy the stunning views which the patio offers night and day with a glass of prosecco in fine and hand cuisine before you.
In case the weather isn’t in its best (On the infrequent occasion) they offer indoor dinning, where you can enjoy their stylishly remodeled basement which has been designed using a recycled deck of an American boat.
Food wise there’s plenty to select from, the menu has an extensive range of choices for both food and beverages. The Harbour Club pride themselves on using local ingredients and freshly caught so the three course option is crucial, produce.
On our trip to the Harbour Club we were lucky enough to experience a plethora of dishes because of there being four of us dining.
For Starter we tried the following:
-
- Confit of neighborhood tuna belly with candied cherry tomatoes, grilled Maltese bread, pickled shallots
- Acquerello Risotto with calamari two ways, squid ink, preserved lemon and fresh marjoram
- Tartare of Irish Black Angus beef noodle, Parmesan cream, pickled shallot and caper dressing
- Ciabatta crisps and the Fish Soup — Aljotta, herb croutons
Starters were cooked to perfection, their highly trained chef’s didn’t make one mistake and really did the restaurant justice. Wise it had been perfect, it wasn’t hurried so that we couldn’t appreciate one another’s company, yet it didn’t feel like we had been waiting for too long. Portion sizes were just right and every dish was filled with taste with nobody leaving a crumb on their plate.
Mains
- Grilled fresh Rib-eye, grilled enoki mushrooms, port wine jus
- Brand New Irish stand of Lamb, green pea cake, bouquet of veggies, red wine jus
- Pan roasted fresh Tuna with a sesame crust, grilled baby gem lettuce green balsamic vinegar.
- Pan roasted corn fed chicken breast, heritage carrot two ways, neighborhood carrot purée, white vermouth
For instance nothing was to blame, steak and the lamb cooked rare as requested, both succulent and full of flavour. The red wine didn’t overpower the natural flavours of the lamb along with the beef was complimented by the interface to its exactness. Expectation, presented elegantly on the plate where it fell since the knife was really excelled by the Tuna. The chicken was succulent and flavoursome and its accompanied vegetables an partnering.
Dessert
We leave space for dessert seeing that we have a sweet tooth although the starter and mains filled. The specials on offer were, a Chocolate Truffle with Crispy Pecan Toffee Crunch or White chocolate mousse with strawberries.
You can imagine the delight of hearing a chocolate mousse. The mousse came out and it must have been. The texture was light because we savoured every mouthful, and dissolved on the tongue. The Chocolate Truffle was decadent and rich, the truffle that is smooth offset by the pinch of the topping, it was a treat for the tastebuds.
Every component of this restaurant has been so ideal that we can’t find fault. In the impeccable service to the breathtaking views, reasonable pricing and the mouthwatering food the only downfall is that we can’t eat there each and every day…
