The final stop on our Portugal tour (Royal Obidos Golf & Spa hotel) was a spectacular one.
Voted one of the best golf clubs in Europe it’s easy to see why this would be a heaven however, there’s still plenty to rave about for those non golfers on the market. (Did you notice the last section of the resort’s name by any opportunity?) That’s correct. From the outside this hotel looks fairly unassuming but don’t let this fool you, inside it’s like a whole other world. With the ocean in the horizon and the historical town of Óbidos moments away there’s no way this place’s location could be faulted.
This resort is tasteful the reception looks like a palace. The foyer is stunning with floor to ceiling doors, it style inside designed by Phillipe Starck including decor and decadent chandeliers, it’s absolute opulence personified. Checking in around sunset also has it’s pros as you obtain a view of the sunset reflecting off of every surface. The mild and the views are truly magnificent and with every turn you take you are presented with a new stunning angle. There was also an abundance of helpful staff to help whenever we wanted them.
Was a bed with a private balcony hanging lights and a plush couch. The layout is fairly neutral and simplistic regardless of the tapestry that is colourful that is complex hanging up behind the beds. The beds were and all amenities were all catered for, yet the toilet was the spectacle of the room. The toilet was hidden sliding doors and on the left you had a bathtub and bathroom both protected by glass and sectioned off. (The famous Portuguese tiles are also on display here) Subsequently for your left you get a massive standalone bath tub next to a floor to ceiling window. Taking a bathroom can there be anything more relaxing than that? The room notice we have got to the spa nonetheless and cried indulgence and pampering!
The restaurant at which we took breakfast echoed this theme of extravagance with all white plush seating and intricate chandeliers dangling everywhere. Additionally, it boasts a breath taking view of their external pool which unfortunately I did not get a chance but believe me I wanted to. That being said eating a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit using all the shimmering water in the background has been just as satisfying. On the topic of facilities that the Royal Obidos clubhouse also features the sea as well as panoramic views of the golf courses. Eating fish for lunch just moments away in the ocean is simple yet effective.
If you take the lift down you are hauled into one of the resort’s most important amenities — the spa. The treatment I had been given was that the elemental unwind massage that lasted for 50 minutes just like drifting into another world, and it was. It was so relaxing I even fell asleep! (That is the energy of a fantastic massage) A gentle massage complete that left me smelling yummy and feeling like a new person after an otherwise busy trip. My masseuse was fantastic and an absolute professional. She made recommendations were made by some tailor according to body and my skin type and even ensured all of my needs were adhered to. Undeniably a highlight of my stay. Why this resort has a reputation for relaxation and golf, it became very clear in that moment.
