Afternoon tea has fast become one of the nation’s favourite ways to while the hours away, a midday treat which allows sip tea to sit and languidly, nibble on cake and get dressed up. Plus it’s a great excuse to consume prossecco in a time which might normally be depended upon!)
It has even been awarded it ‘s very own week where people flock for a flavor of some of their teas to restaurans, hotels and cafes round to celebrate everything fabulous about afternoon tea. We had been fortunate enough to be encouraged to meet Eric Lanlard within his cake boutique along the River Thames and learn some of his secrets in his own tea.
Eric Lanlard functions with P&O cruises to make a unique day tea on board Britannia, Azura and Ventura — we tried it on Britannia and may safely say it’s among the most impressive afternoon tea we have ever had. Decadent and delicious, it promotes interaction, such as an edible perfume and fruit infused cakes and can be exclusive to P&O (you can check out our review here.) We knew we were in for a treat with this masterclass since we had already sampled his mastery on the job aboard.
We were taught to make numerous different desserts and cakes under the skillful advice of Eric and I was amazed at precisely how professional they all looked! The kitchen is top of the range, the ingredients all of the quality and the venue perfect.
The afternoon finished with a luxurious afternoon tea inspired by the French beginnings of Eric. There were tasty savoury croissaints, beautifully macarons and a whole collection.
