It’s almost that time of year again, where it’s socially acceptable for adults to dress up as ghosts, monsters and beasts, and for kids to eat as many sweets as they may possibly wish for. That’s right, Halloween is upon us.
People are already getting ready for their celebrations that are terrifying. So if you’re looking for something different to do this Halloween why not go on a getaway that is spooky to the coast? Here are five locations you should be visiting for your halloween vacations.
The Isle of Wight
This island off the south shore has plenty of attractions for visitors and Halloween time is no exception. Check out Halloween Fright Night in the Steam Railway for lots of shenanigans that are spooky and Wizard Week.
Carisbrooke Castle prepares itself to all things Halloween; as they tell you stories of this castle, you can make your own crafts and wander round the grounds with ghost hunters. As there is a prize for the apparel you’ll also be able to visit the graveyard and find out how the natives died, however, remember to dress in your best costume.
Dorset
Dorset is jam-packed with games and fun throughout the Halloween period. With its assortment of festivities, it is not one for your own faint-hearted. You can search for ghosts around the county, and learn more about the dark old vent area onto a Lyme Regis Ghost Walks. Or have a trip to Nothe Fort in Weymouth, voted among the spookiest locations in Britain as it is famous for repeated websites of ghosts and spirits.
Additionally, what a better time of year to see Tyneham? It was evacuated in WW2 and hasn’t been inhabited again — it’s an atmosphere that was eerie and somewhat surprising.
Cornwall
Since Halloween comes to Cornwall be prepared for the fright of your life. Take a trip to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and follow the road. You get crafty with all the team here or may listen to stories.
Cornwall here’s one for the adults — The Halloween Masked Ball located at Los Flambardos at Helston and has something for everyone at Halloween. Running 6pm until 6am this is a Halloween series unlike any other, with a slideshow of a freak show, fairground follies and rock ‘n’ roll dance, all of which has been motivated from Coney Island in New York. The party is complete with different rooms of bizarre humour, dens, pubs, dance flooring and raving. Come from the party that is grisly at night and roll into bed at a locations, such as among the houses.
Devon
The Big Sheep at Devon has something for everyone. Their yearly Spectacular Halloween Festival takes place from October 24 to November 1. The theme is called ‘Entertaining by Day’ and ‘Seriously Sinister and Spooky by Night’, also when it’s a family trip you’re looking for, this is the place to be. It’s packed with haunted hayrides, ghost trains, singing pumpkins and a Halloween Panto, and attractions are on in the evenings.
Subtropical Gardens will come to life and also also set the night alight with this Enchanted Illuminations’ switch-on. The gardens are ablaze with multi-coloured lights while spending the evening strolling the perfect action for a few, through the pathways. Enter the Maze of Terror, the house or the creepy crawlies tent.
Boscastle
Visit the Museum of Magic and Witchcraft in Boscastle. It is open to people, and you’ll get the opportunity watch performances and to produce your own Halloween masks. At dusk, candlelight lights the museum and you will be joined by a few visitors who will execute an early ceremony at the doors, and a finale away from the museum. This museum showcases some of items regarding magic, witchcraft and the occult.
