There’s simply no competition to that Hotel you ought to stay in, if you’re to head to the New Forest for a break away. Situated in the idyllic village of Beaulieu is your Montagu Arms, a gorgeous countryside oasis that will not and restore you, however, leave you wondering why you ever have stresses.
The Montagu Arms is the sister resort of Carey’s Manor that’s only a short 10 minute drive away and also home to Senspa that the Montagu Arms gives you free access to (and it’s well worth a trip.)
The Hotel itself is over 200 years old and offers beautiful views. Being a boutique resort you feel a part of something specific and are cared for in the moment you step through the door.
We had been put up from the suite on the first floor, after we stayed. Our room was beautiful, with a four poster bed that has been the highlight of this space, two bathrooms plus a separate lounge. Whilst the space itself was simple, timeless and kitsch, this bed made it feel classy and expansive, whilst still retaining a ‘home away from home’ feel. The furniture around the room continued using chest of drawers and a white period-style dresser. Wooden style windows gave way to panoramic views of the woods countryside as well as the Montagu Arms’ gardens that were sublime.
The bathroom leading off from the bedroom has been the most important one of both, with a tub. The second one was smaller. Fresh fruit was provided and they added a birthday card and a balloon as a lovely extra, as I stayed over my birthday.
Dinner took place something I had been excited about sampling. The Terrace is a Michelin star and accredited eatery with visitors journeying to sample chef Matthew Tomkinson’s delicacies from all round the country. The 3 course a la carte menu provides various tasty dishes for #75 we opted for the 7 course chefs tasting menu. This offers 7 dishes with every one as chosen by the chef, followed with a complimenting glass of wine to a surprise.
When we arrived for our dinner reservation we were led into the couch and sat on the sofa whilst they attracted over a glass of champagne. A fire crackling was jazz and candles. Every aspect was yet not the least bit pretentious and thought-out, beautiful.
The waiter asked us to create our choice here and gave our menu to us, a great touch rather than ordering at the table.
We were led through to the Terrace, an area steeped together with wood paneled walls adorned with a carpet that made you wiggle your toes and need to remove your socks and sneakers and drapery. We were sat beside a floor to ceiling window.
The food was every bit deserving of it’s Michelin Star- plus that I can safely say I’ve never tasted food very like it. Each dish which was extracted was accompanied with a glass of wine by the sommelier and we had been told information about both the food and the beverage- a nice touch. Each of the staff were only to happy to help and offered an incomparable and exemplary service. If you do go to the Montagu Arms I would recommend the Chef’s tasting menu as a special treat. At # 90 a head it can be very pricy, but if you do it, I suggest you cover # 140 for the corresponding wine with each course and choose the complete package.
As a one off or treat experience it is unmissable.
The Hotel manager came round half way through the meal to ask us about our stay, imploring on the quality of the space, food and if there was anything else he could help with. He continued to do this with the rest of the tables and is 1 illustration of this Resort goes the extra mile to ensure your stay is the best it can be.
Breakfast can also be held in the Terrace, also offers the classic full english as well as a continental breakfast as well as other alternative alternatives.
For a treat to show that special someone just how much you adore them or break away like an anniversary, a birthday, this is the place. You will walk away feeling refreshed, relaxed and wondering when you’ll be able to return.
