Northcote — A Mitchelin Star which truly lives up to its name
Northcote: the Hotel
Entering Northcote, you instantly feel charmed by their classic decor — exuding dark, romantic hues of purples and reds it is actually a treat to the eyes. The aura of the resort is a very friendly person, having just 26 rooms they’re relatively modest compared to other people, but in our eyes this only worked as a favorable — With less people around, the staff at Northcote are able to get to know you, making your stay that bit more personable.
Northcote have the Manor home rooms which are found in the main resort and range from a classic room up to a living room two distinct areas to stay inside, or the Garden Lodge rooms. These are located in the Northcote gardens across in the manor house and commence as a living room and go up into a master suite. Every room in their collection is extremely individual, each using its own distinct characters that no two rooms are the same.

We were fortunate to remain in the deluxe room 3 which could be one in! The decor was very rich and full of character; everything from floor to ceiling was red and beige with black accents like the dining table and photograph frames to enhance the feel. There was A great improvement the large area of the space . The bathroom was a decent size that included a bath (With an attached shower) and arrived with temple spa luxury bathroom products, it was nicely decorated and felt very homely. That this king size mattress is going to guarantee it, if you’d like a good night’s sleep.
Northcote: The Restaurant
Run by chef Patron Nigel Haworth and executive head chef Lisa Goodin-Allen, Northcote has become a top Michelin-Starred restaurant which is famous for its exceptional food and wine and the staffs highly tentative support. The decor is quite modern and fashionable, which flows throughout the hotel giving away a very sophisticated yet romantic feel, (another reason to continue returning!)
Northcote’s dress code for the restaurant is smart and casual but no sportswear, ripped shorts or denim, even though we must acknowledge that this is the opportunity to get dressed and go all out on the evening.
We began off at the Northcotes Bar for a pre-dinner cocktaillounge. The hotel bar is a wonderful addition to the restaurant that gives off a feeling of luxury and again love, which makes it perfect for your dinner tipple. The group work tirelessly to develop a variety of cocktails which cover the favourites employing. They also have develop a set of after dinner beverages which are perfect to finish the day off after your dining experience. (Tip: The Old Fashioned tasted incredible!)
We also given a selection of menu to pick from and were seated overlooking the beautiful views of the gardens — The a La Carte Menu, Nigel and Lisa’s Gourmet pub or a 7 course taster menu. In our eyes believing they have an award winning record of wines that has taken them years to 32, every one one of these can be paired.
We picked for the 5-course gourmet menu that is composed of five smaller classes enabling you to try out an assortment of their own dishes. A bit like a 7 course taster menu the whole table needs to get involved in the experience and have exactly the very same courses (Though changes can be made due to dietary requirements).
The approach that Northcote takes with their meals is to “delight our guests with flavours that are memorable, presentation that is sensational and an overall experience that lingers forever” and that they surely do. Each course is made using the finest local produce and is presented. The waiter explains in good detail everything that you want to know more about the dish along with the sommelier then comes out with a glass of wine and explains why it’s the best pairing into your program when it’s brought to your table.
The food tastes divine and can be cooked to perfect precision, the variety of flavours complimenting each faultlessly. Everything is planned to the second, nothing is left to chance and the demonstration is spot on. The sauces are delicately drizzled over, although the meat is placed in a place that is certain — It’s just like an art piece so much so that you don’t want to touch it. There is no rushing any of these courses. Northcote lives up to it is Michelin star standing and we found it hard to find fault in whatever we tried during our dining experience.
Unfortunately our meal did eventually come to an end so we attempted one of their after dinner cocktails that was a perfect end to a really special day and headed back to the Northcote pub.
