It is often overlooked by its brothers LA and San Francisco this town is in many ways a location to visit. Having a near perfect temperature all year round flock here to experience those summer vibes even in winter months. It’s among one of the most beautiful and the most culturally diverse cities in the US. You may experience everything in the funky surfer vibe of Ocean Beach, Barrio Logan’s Mexican-American neighbourhood and also the army town of Coronado Island.
One thing that I especially enjoy about SD is its proximity to everything. LA is only a two hour drive away or you can venture half an hour down south and see what Mexico has to offer (for the wine lovers out there Valle de Guadalupe at Ensenada is definitely worth a trip. Some of the views and perfumes are absolutely amazing).
It’s easy to follow the tourist places and these areas are seen a lot for a reason. It’s those small gems that may take away your breath and make your visit extra special. I had an excellent guide to show me these special spots.
San Diego Temple
When I first saw this construction I was dumbfounded with its beauty, so much so that I overlooked giving a direction in the automobile which left my boyfriend quite annoyed, but the opinion can’t be seriously missed by you. With glowing exterior end and pointed spires, it stands out against the bright blue skies of SD. Located just off the Interstate 5 you will probably come across it.
La Jolla Caves
Seeing La Jolla is a must. Directly translated as ‘The Jewel’, La Jolla offers upscale restaurants and hotels that are gorgeous with beaches. It’s among a dream and my favourite places in Southern California. Million dollar homes look over the ocean and line the coasts. The skyline is defined by Palm trees and shape every street. It is also a first class destination for arts and culture with museums. The locals love the mural Brain/Cloud situated near George.
Sunny Jims Cave is the very best, although there are lots of beautiful caves to explore here. Sunny Jims is the exception with a brief walk down, although most require a kayak to research. From there you can see the sea lions, love the scenery or simply shoot some really cool photos.
Balboa Park
Unsurprisingly ranked among the Parks in the World, Balboa is home to 15 museums, several performing arts spaces, magnificent gardens and of course, the famed San Diego Zoo. This is a location where you could spend all weekend and never see everything. A visit here makes for a very relaxing one, whether respect the flowers or you decide to stroll galleries around. Make certain to check out the ‘Free Museum Tuesdays’, where many are the museums are free to see on this day.
Horton Plaza
I really like shopping malls, but that one is different to your average mall because its spread out one of 5 degrees; like an adult park with split paths, gorgeous architecture and a myriad of surprises around every corner. One of the best things about this area is that it’s completely open, so you can delight in the sunshine while shopping. Nordstrom, Macy’s, Gap and Forever21 have shops here, but there are lots of cute boutiques too.
Now most importantly, what sort of food does San Diego offer? You can have anything. I have had the American, Greek and Vietnamese and Filipino and Mexican. Whatever flavour you desire, SD has got you covered. I like carne asada fries whenever I encounter here.
Everybody I know has mentioned to me just how much they want to test In N Out. Originally just in California, but now expanded to Nevada and Arizona, In N Out is a place come true. I have yet to try out a burger that surpasses it. Here although it is so good, they only have to offer four food things simplicity is essential. If you choose a visit to The Golden State, then be sure to see one (and have a look at their key menu). Dual — a Neapolitan shake please, animal style fries and double.
To get a dining experience that is trendy check out Ironside which is located in Little Italy, a place bursting with fancy restaurants and diverse eateries. The area is appealing using a grandeur yet relaxed vibe. A giant octopus tentacle cradling a light bulb and a wall of gold piranhas captures these details give what might almost be a contemporary interpretation of Titanic and your attention. Different fish puns are written on a board often, my favorite being ‘Fish Do Not Kill My Vibe’ a la Kendrick Lamar. The menu here changes every day based on the Octopus the Monchong fish and a la plancha were equally dishes and what’s newly captured. The area also boasts craft cocktails, a bakery, an oyster bar that is expansive and still manages to pull off excellence in each area. Be prepared to invest a moderate quantity of money though also you will want to keep those oysters coming — and also as here you really do get what you pay for!
I had been celebrating a belated birthday once I was last in SD, and for supper my boyfriend took me to a very fun place. Apple product lovers will adore iDessert from Jean Philippe, where you can utilize one of their stations to customise your own dessert layer by layer. To build it you will have to choose your Crust, Gelato and Cream, and then have the option to add sauce cake and a few veggies and/or crunch. I can not recall what we ordered but I understand it was yummy. For mine, he went as far as to place a tiny candle at the very best for me, which was so adorable.
If you are wondering in the event that you need to take a visit to ‘America’s Finest City’, I say do it. 70 miles of sun drenched surf waves for days, a waterfront town with mild breezes and coast. A perfect, endless summer.
