Seen in the City headed to Sandals Grande Antigua to find out what it was actually like for that romantic break. A glass of champagne on arrival at the resort set for what was to be for the remaining portion of the trip, the precedence. We were shown round the hotel, and had the chance to view the different lodging types — “The Caribbean Grove” and “The Mediterranean Village”. The Mediterranean Village draws and palatial villas of the enviable coastal towns of Europe and inspiration apart and is stunning.
With a variety of stores, boutique European-style eateries along with a true bar, it sports a buzzing yet relaxed landscape which is to be unrivalled on the Island. The Caribbean Grove is a lushly landscaped area tucked under towering palms and climbing vines- a real paradise just a few sandy steps. Exotic Rondovals suites and cottages exude a ambience ideal for that break away. We stayed in one of those Mediterranean Village suites and its magnificent, if there is one word to explain it. This is the accommodation for you, if you’re wanting to go that one step up and immerse yourself in pure sanity. With a mahogany four poster bed, large bath, walk in shower, our own bar, living area and terrace with views over the hotel and beach there is little more you might desire. This room comes with its own personal butler who will do everything from packaging and unpacking your bag into massaging your champagne.
The hotel itself is utterly divine — something reflected from the fact it has been voted the “World’s Most Romantic Resort” year after year. Situated on soft white sands Antigua’s best and most famous beach and the majestically sea pave way for a holiday and scenes unlike any others. A charming beachfront getaway, it’s evident just why its six star standing has been attained by it.
The grounds full of amazing backdrops perfect for wedding ceremonies and greenery, are currently bursting with blossoms. Sandals never hold that their day is as unique as it could be and resorts full attention and that a wedding at a time to ensure all guests receive the staff.
Dinner is something of a affair at Sandals Grande Antigua. With such a vast array of distinct restaurant spanning a broad variety of cuisines over, there’s something for everyone. Our favorite was at Kimono’s — a pub. It had been reservation so we’d recommend reserving yourself in. The food was cooked and served and delicious in front of us. Our other indulgence was Café de Paris, a French patisserie serving freshly baked pastries, cakes, crepes, coffee and ice cream. This was open till 10.30pm, so we appreciated a crepe there after dinner one evening. It is located in a courtyard with a fountain in the middle, and the perfect place to relax and relish the views. Dotted across the hotel are fire pits with chairs which at the day is the perfect place to sit back and relax taking from the soft aromas of burning wood and the Caribbean sunset that was smooth.
The simple fact that there are so many distinct areas at Sandals Grande Antigua means it seems like you are currently staying in a small town instead of a resort, however it is not too large and contains everything you could need a brief walk away. Being all inclusive too, your break is free. Just what you need when!
Water sports in Sandals can also be in prosperity — from scuba and snorkelling diving to wind cats, there’s something for everyone. As we are capable divers, we moved one afternoon — it was a experience. There are also a range of courses on offer so that you are able to learn during your trip, if you’re a new diver. Other actions within the hotel include tennis, volley ball, a fitness centre and a spa. There are six water pools and six whirlpools swim up pool bars. We found the Mediterranean pool livelier with games and music, whereas the Caribbean pool was smaller, more quiet and ideal for relaxing or snoozing!
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would recommend the resort. From the beginning until the conclusion you’ll have the period of your lives and it is sure to be.
