The Greenway Hotel and Spa, an ideal romantic getaway…
The Greenway Hotel & Spa is a 16th-century Elizabethan manor on the outskirts of Cheltenham. Upon entering the grounds, the key surroundings immediately enchant you. Perfect manicured hedges with archways that lead you to gardens boarded with flowers. Famous for the world renowned Cheltenham festival, the resort promotes racing memorabilia along with corridors full of furniture and traditional Elizabethan style fittings.
We were fortunate enough to stay in a feature package known as the Elm room. The decor in the package followed through into the room from hallways and continued with bespoke wallpaper sporting horses with all the horse racing theme.
The suite itself was spacious and included a small lounge area with leather sofas and a large screen TV. The bed was adorned with feather pillows and scatter cushions, which makes the nights sleeping that extra bit comfy. Little touches like the homemade brief bread within the room, dressing gowns and slippers allow you to feel right at home. Without devoting an entire paragraph into the contemporary elegant bathroom we couldn’t write a review of the space. His and hers bathroom countertops were laden with Espa products. There was a spacious double shower space for two, with separate shower heads or flip them both on for a rain forest experience.
The hotel is also home to the Elan Spa, that contains a boutique , hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, sanarium, adventure showers, a Champagne nail bar, a alfresco wooden hot tub as well as The Orchard Brasserie. The health spa was a true highlight of our stay with friendly and highly trained staff. Facilities above we were also fortunate enough to indulge in a touch pedicure as well as enjoying some of the spa. The therapy contained a foot massage and lasted about 60 mins. The pedicure didn’t processor for weeks but we were given a bottle of this nail polish to fix any “damage” that may occur, this was among the few little touches that really created the Spa stand out as location that’s highly customer orientated.
We enjoyed a pre-dinner aperitif an extensive Gin menu resulted in pineapple and gin tonics all around.
Upon finishing our drinks, the maitre’d guided us through into the traditional dining room, big glass windows over looked among those scenic gardens that were well-presented.
We enjoyed the dining. The menu focused on locally sourced fresh and seasonal ingredients. To start our meal a portion of meaty terrine ham-hock has been served with a topping of lychee, stem schezwan and ginger pepper . The sweetness of lychee harmonising together with fire and the terrine from the pepper, left your taste buds tantalised and wanting more of the dish that was hot, rich and sweet. The true show stopper of the meal has to go to the primary course. A portion of reared Cotswold lamb served with goats yogurt and Aubergine garlic. The freshness of this lamb was clear and before attempting it, the hearty aroma filled the atmosphere and teased the tastebuds. The flavor of the lamb enhanced the senses and enjoy butter that it melted in the moutharea. Never have we appreciated lamb this refreshing! Complemented by the goats yogurt and roasted aubergine this dish was thoroughly enjoyed. Subsequently future lamb dishes (especially the freshness of it) will be compared and judged to this excellent dish.
Dark chocolate delice, salted caramel and malt was our desert and it lived up to its name — a pure pleasure. Silky chocolate cut from crunch and the caramel from the malt worked really well together.
We had a really fantastic time in Spa and the Greenway Hotel and if you’re searching for a relaxing break away there is no place you could see.
