Armathwaite Hall — a slice of paradise and tranquility
The Resort
Armathwaite Hall Hotel is comfy and luxurious, echoing the sense of a era in a way that you wouldn’t feel surprised if ago flitted on their way to tea. Wooden walls sit atop blossoms begging for afternoons of, a walnut in hand. There are a to hot tub suites, currently which range of distinct rooms in the Hotel.
It is home to an award-winning spa, complete with a number of a pool, treatment rooms, sauna, steam room, swimming pool and hot tub. This bathtub is a highlight. Deliciously warm it envelopes you like an old friend and offers you stunning views over the resorts impressive grounds and the lakes outside.
The Room
We were in one of those spa feature rooms, a modest area with a bath, the grounds. The decoration was neutral and but in no way weary or tired, exuding whispers of a grand background. The bed was big and comfy, chairs sit round a tv and a mirror adds the space and a dash of opulence. The toilet on the other hand is a sizable free-standing bathroom taking pride of place in the center and sleek, soft surfaces that are marbled and contemporary. It perfect place from life for hours of rest and relaxation.
The Area
These grounds are great for hours of walks, a picnic or only a gentle stroll (and the hotel even offers Alpaca’s you can choose a walk — a USP if ever I have seen one!)
Flowered fields lead to stretching of woodland that is fairytale-Esque, prior to a clearing opens to reveal the most beautiful lake, shrouded by hills. It is lovely and so secluded, it’s one of these places you are feeling is there for you and for you alone. We vowed to come back the next day and bring a picnic dinner should the weather license.
The Restaurant
Dinner at Armathwaite Hall is held at the Lake View restaurant using a pre-dinner cocktail in the lounge. It’s good to dress up, letting yourself relax for the evening and really slipping on a fancy dress and suit and tie. Forget about the hassle of city life- of popping something in the oven for tea after a day of hurrying about, for the meal at Armathwaite Hall is one to be enjoyed and savoured the rush — and you.
Once our cocktails were sipped (an old fashioned and also a cosmopolitan) we had been led to the dining room. Much like the remainder of the resort it was impressive and grand , white clothed tables beckon you over with flickering candles and flowers.
The menu created using local ingredients. The chef brings inspiration from French cuisine and the traditional English fayre. Starters include Heritage carrot salad with hazlenuts cream cheese and olive oil, venison pastrami with ham, soy and black truffle, and cartel smoked salmon with horseradish, goats cheese and beetroot. Each newcomer is both satisfying enough to fill up you while still leaving room to your mains.
There are plenty of choices for mains, designed to take you. I opted for the Cumbrian beef noodle that was accompanied by oxtail, chestnut mushrooms, vine ripened tomatoes, smoked potatoes and a sloe gin jus. It was teeming with flavours and cooked to perfection, the beef was succulent and the potatoes the balance of soft and crispy. My partner opted with samphire and onionpraising the juiciness of the meat and the perfection of the accompaniments. As well as a meat dishes there are vegetarian and fish options on offer.
Dessert wise, there is also choice. From lemon tart there is something. In which you can try out numerous delicious local cheeses for those without a sweet tooth, a varied cheese choice is also available.
Armathwaite Hall encompasses all you could want from a break away. It enveloping you in its own history is superbly relaxing and making you never want to leave. The rooms are inviting and warm, the food tasty and the place breathtakingly beautiful. And if that is not enough, where else can you take a justification to get a stroll?
